Born in Cornwall, England, Jacqueline emigrated to Canada with her parents at age ten. She returned to England to study art at the Ravensbourne College, Bromley, Kent and at the Central School of Art & Design in London. From the latter, Jacqueline graduated with her Bachelor of Arts Degree and with a one-year Leverhulme travelling scholarship. The travel led her to New York, Paris and, eventually, to the Lake Como district of northern Italy. For twelve years, she owned and operated a textile design studio catering to the various stamperie of the area who counted amongst their clients the great pret-a-porter and haute couture fashion houses of Europe and the United States. From 1989 to 2000 Jacqueline worked in Toronto as a visual and fibre artist and art instructor. In 2000 she went to Palermo, Sicily where for three years she documented the changing landscape of its rich urban centre. These experiences continue to influence her present works in oil and watercolour since her return to Toronto in 2004.

For several years now I have been fascinated with the idea of art as a documentation of personal response and experience to the built, natural, social and cultural environment. I have been inspired to try and capture the essence of certain moments or periods in particular places.

I have always been a draftsperson, and drawing remains a foundational feature of my work. My preferred format has generally been large, with a marked sense of colour, texture and strong lines. The images are documentations of my experiences in, and relation with, the world around me. I paint in series or sets taking a concept and developing and building as I work through the images. My work has always exhibited strong textural markings and, with the paintings, many overlays of glazing. My years in Sicily led to a much bolder and stronger use of watercolours, a portable and expressive medium necessitated by my colourful and exotic surroundings, as well as by the challenge of working on-site during cultural festivities and in many of the historic locations.

Returning to Toronto in 2004 I began to apply these layering and glazing techniques to oils on canvas. My most recent works are inspired by memories of sites with which I have a personal history.
